Passageway Games is a small indie studio based in Abilene, Texas, started by Jon Grierson and John Hendrick back in 2014. What makes them unique is that Grierson and Hendrick are both in their 70s and first worked together on a medical device project 30 years ago. After that they reconnected because of their shared love for RPGs, and Grierson’s long experience with them led to the idea of creating their own indie game.
Passageway of the Ancients* is heavily inspired by classic ‘90s CRPGs and even some from the early 2000s. It takes place on Aieryon, the last magical planet in the galaxy where you’ll explore the city of Ithgar to solve a tragic mystery. You’ll face off against deadly creatures gather clues and level up your character while managing your party. Lockpicking Runic mystery and hunting for top tier loot are all key parts of the experience.
Combat is tough and always keeps you on your toes. turn based and real time combat with influences from historical weapons and tactics. You’ll also juggle two personas: your public character (Dwarf, Elf, or Human) and a secret “Dragonkindt.” Balancing and leveling both personas is a big part of the strategy, and figuring out when to use each is where the fun really kicks in.
